A laparoscopic instrument called the Plasmakinetics tripolar coagulator is used to coagulate the tissue including the blood vessels. A small knife that is built into the coagulator cuts the tissue along the broken lines. At the end of this process, the uterus, or uterus, tubes, and ovaries, are detached.

IllustrationWhen the uterus is removed from its tissue and blood vessel attachments, the Gynecare DIVA morcellator is used to cut it into strips and remove it from the body through a thin tube. The tubes and ovaries can also be removed this way.

At the end of the procedure, the cervix is covered with lining tissue and supported by permanent suture placed through the strong uterosacral ligaments.
